Game Programming Senior Camp – Javascript | Jun 3-Day Holiday Camp Singapore

Many children enjoy playing simple browser-based games online. This camp flips that interest into something productive by helping them understand the coding and design behind web games, and then create one themselves.

Game Programming Senior Camp – Javascript is a 3-day coding camp for students aged 11 and above who are ready to build real projects for the web. Students learn the basics of Javascript, HTML and CSS, and use the p5.js library to create an interactive space shooter game that runs in the browser.
Instead of only playing browser games, students learn how web games are actually created, giving them hands-on experience in coding, game design and digital project building.

More than just learning syntax, students experience how a web project comes together from idea to finished product. As they storyboard their game, code gameplay features, test their work and publish a playable final project, they develop creativity, logical thinking, persistence and the confidence to build something they can share with friends and family.
This camp gives older students a meaningful next step in coding because it helps them:
• learn real web programming with HTML, CSS and Javascript
• understand how digital products are structured and built
• develop creativity through game design and storyboarding
• strengthen problem-solving by breaking a larger project into manageable parts
• build resilience by testing, debugging and improving their own work
• gain confidence from completing and sharing a working game
It is especially valuable for students who enjoy online games and are ready to move from consumer to creator.

Day 1 –
Learn the Basics of Javascript and Web Projects

Students are introduced to the core ideas behind Javascript and how websites and web games are structured. They learn how HTML, CSS and Javascript work together, then begin writing simple code to understand how web-based projects are built.
They will learn to:
• understand basic Javascript syntax
• explore how HTML, CSS and Javascript fit together
• write simple code for interactive behaviour
• begin planning & coding a game project
This helps students move beyond using technology into understanding how digital products are actually made. It builds a strong foundation in real web programming and gives them early confidence with tools used in modern software and game development.

Key concepts:
Javascript syntax, web project structure, logical thinking, digital creation, coding confidence

Day 2 –
Build the Space Shooter Game

Students begin building their own space shooter game using Javascript and p5.js. They learn how to set up the game scene, control movement, create interactions and turn a game idea into a working project.
They will build:
• the main game setup
• player controls and movement
• core gameplay features for a space shooter
This teaches children how larger projects are built step by step. They practise planning, problem decomposition and coding with purpose, while seeing how ideas become interactive experiences that others can play and enjoy.

Key concepts:
game design, problem decomposition, interactivity, structured programming, creative thinking

Day 3 –
Complete, Test and Publish the Game

Students finish their game by adding polish, fixing issues, improving gameplay and testing how the project performs. They then complete a final version that can be shared with friends and family online.
They will:
• refine and improve their game
• test for bugs and gameplay issues
• add final polish and improvements
• complete and publish a playable project
This gives students the full experience of building a digital product from start to finish. It strengthens resilience, attention to detail and pride in craftsmanship, while showing them that they can create not just code exercises, but something real, finished and shareable.

Key concepts:
testing and debugging, iteration, project completion, resilience, creative ownership
