Hello there, fellow Computhinkers!

The June school holidays are here, and it’s the perfect time for our young coders to put their skills to work in a fun and engaging way. We’ve got five amazing Scratch project ideas that will not only hone their programming prowess but also let their creativity run wild. Let’s get started!

1. Space Explorer

Blast off into the cosmos with your very own spaceship! With the Space Explorer project, kids get to craft an exciting game where a spacecraft navigates through a star-studded field.

All you need to start is a cool spaceship sprite and a starry backdrop. Remember, to craft an infinite star field, a cloning script can do wonders.

So, fasten your seatbelts, we’re about to explore the galaxy!

2. Memory Master

Get ready to boost your brainpower with Memory Master! This project is a super fun card matching game designed to test your memory.

To start, you’ll need pairs of cards with identical images at the back. A quick script will enable the cards to flip over when clicked, revealing whether they match.

Just one pro-tip: make sure you have a script that shuffles the cards at the start of each game. Ready to become a memory champion?

3. Animated Storyteller

Who’s up for a storytelling adventure? With Animated Storyteller, you can create a magical world where your tales come to life! You’ll start by drawing your characters (known as sprites) and backdrops. Then use the ‘looks’ and ‘motion’ blocks to animate your characters.

Remember, the ‘Ask and Wait’ block can add a touch of interactivity to your story, making it a truly enchanting experience!

4. Dancing Shapes

Are you ready to boogie with polygons?

Dancing Shapes is a delightful project that marries music and math in a colorful dance! You’ll first create different geometric shapes, and then add your favorite song. Use ‘motion’ and ‘sound’ blocks to get your shapes grooving to the beat.

And here’s a fun tip: try using ‘pen’ blocks to leave a vibrant trail as your shapes dance around the screen. Let’s get the party started!

5. Virtual Pet

Ever wished for a pet you could take anywhere? Well, with Virtual Pet, your wish just came true!

Create your cute pet sprite and then script its reactions to events like feeding, petting, or playing. You could use variables to monitor your pet’s hunger, happiness, and energy levels.

So, are you ready to be a proud owner of a pet that doesn’t shed, make noise, or need to be housebroken?

Now, these are just a few ideas to kickstart your holiday coding journey. Whether you’re a seasoned Computhinker or a newbie just dipping your toes into the coding waters, these projects are designed to be both fun and challenging. And remember, there’s no limit to what you can create with coding. So let your imagination take flight!

Stay tuned to our blog for more exciting project ideas. And most importantly, remember to have fun! After all, at Computhink, we believe in learning through creating and playing. Happy coding, everyone!
