Workshop Outline
Elite Coder Python is a 3-day workshop and certification assessment designed to strengthen students' core Python programming skills and prepare them for the assessment.
Select your preferred December workshop date during registration.
Day 1: Python Foundations on CodeMonkey
Students build their core Python foundations through guided CodeMonkey challenges. They will:
- Learn how Python instructions control objects in the game
- Understand sequencing and why the order of instructions matters
- Practise debugging when a solution does not work as expected
- Learn how related items can be organised and accessed using lists
- Use loops to repeat actions more efficiently
- Learn how number ranges can be used to control repetition
Key concepts: objects and properties, sequencing, debugging, lists, indexing, loops, range
Day 2: Building Python Logic
Students build on their foundations and learn how programs store information, make decisions and repeat actions. They will:
- Use variables to store and update information
- Make decisions using conditions
- Choose between different actions based on whether a condition is met
- Use loops that continue while a condition remains true
- Combine multiple conditions to solve more complex problems
Key concepts: variables, conditionals, if/else, while loops, Boolean logic
Day 3: Assessment Preparation & Certification
Students review and consolidate what they have learned before taking the certification assessment. They will:
- Review key Python concepts from the workshop
- Work through additional practice questions and challenges
- Take the Elite Coder Python Fundamentals assessment
- Receive an assessment scorecard and e-certificate upon completion
Key focus: review, assessment preparation, confidence-building, certification
Across 3 afternoons, students strengthen their Python foundations, practise applying what they have learnt, and complete the Elite Coder Python Fundamentals certification assessment.
The workshop is suitable for students who want to build confidence in Python while working towards a recognised coding credential. Students will:
Strengthen their Python programming foundations through guided challenges and practice
Apply key programming concepts to solve increasingly complex problems
Prepare for and complete a formal assessment
Receive an Elite Coder e-certificate and assessment scorecard
Build a credential they can show schools and programmes
Learning Tools
At Computhink, our enquiry-based approach encourages students to think critically and understand the "why" behind their learning.
Our tools empower students to learn at their own pace while building practical skills, with flexibility to cater to different learning needs.
Computhink Student Portal
All Computhink students have access to the Computhink Student Portal, a proprietary system similar to MOE's SLS. Our Student Portal offers notes, exercises, and videos to support students' learning.
CodeMonkey with Python
Students code in Python on the CodeMonkey platform, with practice exercises and challenges for their certification level.
Safe and Welcoming Environment
Students will attend their classes onsite. Laptop and all necessary equipment are provided.
Online classes are not available for this programme, as the certification assessment must be conducted in person under formal assessment conditions.
Onsite Classes are conducted in our spacious classrooms in Computhink@ToaPayohLibrary.
FAQs
What is Elite Coder Python Certification?
Elite Coder Python is a certification programme that combines guided Python learning with a formal assessment. Over 3 days, students build their skills on CodeMonkey before completing the assessment and receiving an e-certificate and scorecard.
Who is it for?
Students aged 11 to 16, and Computhink students in PythonThinker Level 6 (CT06) and above.
How do the levels work?
Elite Coder Python has two certification levels: Python Fundamentals and Python Advanced. Students progress from the fundamentals level before moving on to the advanced level.
Fundamentals comes first, so a student can take Advanced in a later week once they have completed Fundamentals. Each booking includes the 3-day preparation workshop and the formal certification assessment for this level.
How is this different from the Elite Coder CoffeeScript track?
Both are part of the Elite Coder certification programme, but they follow different pathways.
The Python track is designed for students aged 11 to 16 and assesses Python programming skills.
The CoffeeScript track is designed for younger students and follows the Basic, Intermediate and Advanced (BIA) Elite Coder Certification pathway, with students progressing through the three levels in order.
How is this different from the Python Minecraft camp?
This workshop leads to a formal certification assessment. Our Python Minecraft Coding Camp is a holiday camp where students learn Python by building in Minecraft.
What are the workshop timings?
Thursday to Saturday, 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, 3 hours a day, including the assessment. Your teen joins one workshop week.
What does my teen need to bring?
Laptops and all equipment are provided.
How many students are in each class?
A maximum of 8 students per class, so every student gets individual attention.
