Roblox Coding Camp for Teens
3-Day Roblox Game Development Camp for Ages 11 to 16
From playing Roblox games to making one.
In Defenders of Magic, students aged 11 to 16 build their own magic-themed game in Roblox Studio, the same tool Roblox developers use. They design the world the game takes place in, code magic spells such as fireballs and lightning bolts, and program the monsters the player must defend against.
Also running during the PSLE marking days, Monday 12 to Wednesday 14 October, 9:30 am to 12:30 pm.
Every spell and every monster runs on Lua, the programming language Roblox itself is built on. Design is as much a part of the camp as code, so students finish with a playable game they built from the ground up, and the confidence to keep building.

Camp Outline
Defenders of Magic runs over three days, and each day adds a new layer to the student’s own game: the world, the spells, then the monsters and the final battle.
During the camp, each student also completes a short level assessment, and we recommend the right level for our regular weekly classes.
Day 1: Build the World
Students learn their way around Roblox Studio and design the world their game takes place in. They will:
• Plan how their game will be played
• Build and design a world in Roblox Studio
• Write their first Lua scripts
• Make objects in the world react to the player
Key concepts: game design, Lua basics, events
Day 2: Monsters and Spells
Students bring the monsters to life and code the magic spell system. They will:
• Program the monster AI and spawning system
• Create User Interface elements to display in-game information
• Use variables and functions to change how the magic spells work
• Test their spells and fine-tune how they feel in play
Key concepts: variables, functions, user interface
Day 3: Final Battle
Students add unique gameplay mechanics and systems into the game. They will:
• Add game assets to make the world feel more alive
• Code systems that let the players progress in the game
• Combine the world, spells and monsters into one game
• Playtest, debug and polish their finished game
Key concepts: debugging, iteration, game systems
Across 3 days, students design a world, code spells and monsters in Lua, and finish with a Roblox game they built themselves. It is real game development with the tools Roblox developers use.
Write real Lua code in Roblox Studio
Design a game world with its own look and rules
Program spells, monsters and game mechanics
Develop logical thinking by breaking a game into parts
Debug and improve their game through playtesting
Finish a playable game they can keep building on
Learning Tools
At Computhink, our enquiry-based approach encourages students to think critically and understand the “why” behind their learning.
Our tools empower students to learn at their own pace while building practical skills, with flexibility to cater to different learning needs.
Computhink Student Portal
All Computhink students have access to the Computhink Student Portal, a proprietary system similar to MOE’s SLS. Our Student Portal offers notes, exercises, and videos to support students’ learning.
Roblox Studio and Lua
Students build in Roblox Studio, the free tool Roblox developers use, and code in Lua, the language Roblox runs on. Laptops with Roblox Studio are provided for the camp.
Safe and Welcoming Environment
Students will attend their classes onsite. Laptop and all necessary equipment are provided. Online classes are available on a case-by-case basis.
Onsite Classes are conducted in our spacious classrooms in Computhink@ToaPayohLibrary.
FAQs
Does my teen need coding experience?
This camp is beginner-friendly and suits teens aged 11 to 16. Students who already play Roblox settle in quickly, and every student learns Lua step by step.
What will my teen build?
Their own magic-themed Roblox game: a world they design, wand spells such as fireballs and lightning bolts, and monsters the player defends against, all coded in Lua.
What is Lua?
Lua is the programming language Roblox is built on. Students type real code in Roblox Studio, the same tool Roblox developers use.
Should my teen choose Roblox or Python?
Both teach typed code to the same age group. Roblox suits a teen set on building games on the platform they already love. Our Python coding camp teaches a general-purpose language used across many fields, which makes it a great first language for a broad start.
What does my teen need to bring?
Laptops with Roblox Studio and all equipment are provided, so your teen just arrives ready to build.
What are the camp timings?
Monday to Wednesday, 3 hours a day. The October camp during the PSLE marking days runs 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, and the December camps run 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Your teen joins one week of the camp.
How many students are in each class?
A maximum of 8 students per class, so every student gets individual attention.
Do you provide a certificate?
Yes. Every student receives a certificate of completion at the end of the camp.
What happens after the camp?
During the camp each student completes a short level assessment, and we recommend a level for our regular weekly classes.
